About Us
The Whirligear Dragon began with a simple goal: to create beautiful, well-crafted pieces that feel personal, functional, and a little bit magical — the kind of products that are classy enough for the home, but still inspired by the worlds we love, like fantasy, anime, tabletop games, and the stories that spark our imagination.
What started as a personal passion has grown into a family-run and veteran-owned woodworking business built by Tim and Mike. Each of us brings something different to the shop, but we share the same belief: the things you use every day should be made with care, built to last, and worth showing off.
Tim
Tim has spent over a decade working as a software engineer, but has always had a deep love for woodworking, games, design, and building things that bring people joy. The Whirligear Dragon is where those passions come together — combining thoughtful design, functional details, and a love for craftsmanship into products made for homes, game nights, gifts, and everyday use.
Mike
Mike is a U.S. Air Force veteran and brings his own creativity, precision, and hands-on experience to the business. His part of the story adds to the heart of what we’re building: a small Idaho business rooted in hard work, quality, service, and pride in making something real with our hands.
A family-built brand
From the beginning, we wanted this to be more than just a business. Family has been part of the creative process from the start. Tim’s kids help dream up ideas, sketch designs, and bring products to life — in fact, Tim’s son hand-drew our original dragon logo. Mike’s wife then helped bring that artwork to life by cleaning it up and converting it into the digital logo we use today.
What we make
Today, we create handmade woodworking for the home and for tabletop gaming, including custom gaming trays, chess boards, cribbage boards, cutting boards, serving trays, and other functional wood pieces. Every product is designed to be useful, beautiful, and meaningful — something you can display, gift, or use for years.
That mix of family creativity, craftsmanship, and collaboration is part of what gives The Whirligear Dragon its personality.
